History

History of Immanuel Bible Church

In the spring of 1964, members of Calvary Baptist Church of Alexandria and Faith Baptist Church of Vienna met to discuss the need for a mission in the rapidly growing area of Springfield, Virginia. Sixteen families met during summer and in August, they met for the first time in Robert E. Lee High School as Immanuel Baptist Church, drafting a declaration and constitution. Forty-two founding members signed it.

The Beginning of an Hispanic Ministry

Pastor John Malone and his wife, Joanne ("Juanita") joined Immanuel after serving as missionaries in Ecuador for many years. Pastor John was named Pastor of Missions and Outreach in November 1986.

The couple began a monthly dinner with Spanish-speaking people who attended Immanuel with the vision to reach the Hispanic community. After three months, they met with three other couples with whom they formed an organizing body for the organization of the group.

This group began meeting every Sunday at 10:00 am in the Matthew Place, a house owned by Immanuel.  Gradually the group became more organized and began to grow and become strong with the home visits of the Pastor and the organizing body.  With absolute unanimity, the group was called "Hispanos en Cristo," recognized this way for approximately thirty years.

Pastor John is now enjoying the presence of God, and Joanne currently lives in Pennsylvania.

Hispanic Ministry Gets Pastor

In 2007, the Immanuel Bible Church congregation voted, naming Juan Ancalle as first Pastor of Hispanic Ministries.
